Can Vaping Damage Your Oral Health?

Vaping, or smoking electronic style cigarettes, is a growing trend. It has been touted as being safer than cigarette smoking, but not much is known as far as how much safer it really is, if at all.

However, since it is a growing trend, it is important to look at the damage that this pastime can cause. If you are trying to decide if you should try vaping, the overall recommendation of dentists is that you should avoid it.

How Vaping Can Impact Your Oral Health

While vaping is said to expose the smoker to less chemicals than smoking, it still does expose the smoker to some. Many of the people who vape have similar symptoms to people who smoke. They notice that their mouths get very dry, and they get a cough that they have a hard time getting rid of. Even if you are exposed to fewer chemicals, your body still struggles with vaping.

Dry mouth is known for causing an increase in chances you will experience tooth decay, which makes vaping dangerous to do for your overall oral health. While more studies need to be conducted on just how dangerous it can be, that alone should be enough to keep people from starting the habit.

However, on top of the dry mouth, there is also the danger of the heat that most people do not worry about. The electronic cigarette gives off super-heated vapors, putting your oral tissues at risk of burns as well.

If you have already started vaping, talk to your dentist about how you can quit. It could spare your teeth, your mouth, and your health if you give it up now instead of doing it for years to come.

Contact our office right away to ensure that you are not already suffering the ill effects of vaping on your oral health and don't know it.
